Agent operations monitoring
Illustrative use case, not a case study.
Live agents are watched for failed actions, quality drift, stale knowledge, and unusual cost, with versioned fixes proposed and a way to roll back.
The problem
We have agents in production, and we find out they have degraded when a user complains. Nobody owns the evaluation set, the knowledge they rely on quietly goes stale, and a change to a prompt is not treated like a change to code.
How it works today
Agent health is checked by looking at platform dashboards occasionally and by reading user feedback. Prompt and configuration changes are made directly in production by whoever has access. There is no regular evaluation run, no record of what changed when, and cost is noticed on the invoice.

Transcript
- An agent is live. Then its answers start to drift. Costs climb, failures hide in the logs, and nobody is sure when it last worked well.
- Monitoring collects operational evidence on a schedule, flags emerging problems against the agreed baseline, and proposes a fix.
- A person approves each change after it passes evaluation. Changes are versioned, with a way to restore the previous version.
- Measured on failure rate, evaluation pass rate, and cost per completed task. Illustrative use case. Let us discuss yours.
Proposed workflow
- Collect agent run logs, tool-call outcomes, evaluation results, and cost data in one place
- Surface failed actions, quality drift against the evaluation set, stale knowledge sources, and unusual cost
- Propose a remediation such as a knowledge refresh, a configuration change, or a temporary fallback
- Route the proposal through change control as a versioned change with a rollback path
- Confirm the fix through evaluation before a person promotes it to production
Where a person stays in control
- Every change to prompts, configuration, or knowledge is versioned, approved by a person, and reversible
- A person decides whether to disable an agent or switch to fallback when quality or cost is out of bounds
- Evaluation must pass before a change is promoted
Platform mappings indicate environments in which to assess this idea. Actual implementation depends on configuration, licenses, APIs, data, and permissions. Benefits are stated qualitatively; numeric claims require a documented baseline.
